In this role, the NP/PA will care for patients with a variety of neurologic disorders such as Neuropathy, ALS, Muscular Dystrophy and other Neuromuscular Disorders. Evaluate, diagnose and treat many neurologic presenting syndromes including headache, falls, vertigo, disequilibrium, weakness, numbness/tingling, memory loss, seizures and others. Prescribe medications, order and interpret diagnostic tests like MRI, EEG and laboratory studies, and may perform routine procedures such as lumbar puncture. Guide patients and families through important health care decisions and provide education about neurologic disorders. Provide medical care for patients independently and in collaboration with physicians. Connect patients and their families with appropriate institutional and community resources.
The NP/PA is responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with general neurological problems and the documentation of services provided into the electronic medical record. Documentation includes but is not limited to care management referrals, prescriptions, orders, necessary follow-up plans and review and inclusion of outside records.
A qualified candidate will be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and formal Adult, Family or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner training or accredited Physician Assistant Training program. Have a current MN RN license or PA license in the state of Minnesota and be approved by the Minnesota Board of Nursing or Minnesota Board of Medical Practice for prescription writing privileges. Be certified through ANCC/NCCPA or eligible for ANCC national exam and meet threshold criteria/qualifications for Credentialing and Privileges.
Three years as an Advanced Practice Nurse or Physician Assistant, with two to three years experience in neurology highly desired. Three to five years of relevant experience in ambulatory care, urgent care, neuro sciences unit, or related area preferred.
