In 1919, F. A. Upsher-Smith began processing digitalis drug products to treat patients suffering from congestive heart failure. As an inventive research pharmacist, he was able to improve the drug product and create a uniform, predictably active form of digitalis. Upsher-Smith Laboratories still produces cardiology products and has expanded to the areas of dermatology and women’s health as well. Today, Upsher-Smith is focusing on neurology products that treat epilepsy and Parkinson's disease.
