Compensation $187,000 - $225,000 dependent upon qualifications.
Detailed Job Responsibilities:
Clinical Authority and Leadership (30%):
The Senior Director of Clinical Services will spearhead Boynton Health's strategic initiatives, anchoring our values in the development of comprehensive care models for our diverse student body. They will lead the transition to integrated services and apply population health principles to benefit the campus community. By prioritizing student voices, they will ensure clinical services are responsive and aligned with constituents' needs.
Responsibilities include supervising provider staff, ensuring clinical quality, infection control, and regulatory compliance. Additionally, this role acts as a liaison to University of Minnesota entities such as the Campus Public Health Officer, Office of Academic Clinical Affairs, and other Office for Student Affairs departments, facilitating collaboration on student health matters.
Oversight and leadership of clinical services at Boynton include:
- Directly supervise clinical service line directors, excluding mental health, overseeing primary care, gynecology, gender care, optometry, dental, physical therapy, nutrition, and infection prevention.
- Offer clinical consultation and oversight to public health, nursing, x-ray, lab, therapy, and psychiatry, collaborating with the Director of Mental Health Services when necessary.
- Contribute to hiring decisions for clinical practitioners and define qualifications and performance expectations for medical staff, handling appointments, credentials, and privileges.
- Participate in internal quality committees, ensuring staff compliance with regulatory requirements and accreditation standards, while providing necessary training and resources.
- Stay abreast of health developments, disseminating pertinent information to providers, particularly regarding infectious diseases and urgent medical protocols.
- Provide clinical expertise in public health emergencies and student medical crises, leading efforts to maintain AAAHC accreditation and oversee visit targets for service lines.
- Establish, modify, and approve clinical policies and procedures, serving as the authority for all clinical protocols, and serve in Boynton's Incident Command Structure during emergencies.
Serve on the Executive Leadership Team, overseeing Boynton’s Clinical Services and its campus-wide role in student health services and infectious disease emergencies (15%)
- Develop and implement interventions to enhance campus health, particularly targeting underserved students, through partnerships with campus leaders and student groups.
- Lead clinical services, crafting culturally responsive care models tailored to the University of Minnesota student population, informed by qualitative and quantitative data.
- Contribute medical expertise to discussions on general health services, campus-wide programs, and policies affecting the campus population.
- Participate in campus-wide emergency preparedness efforts, focusing on infectious disease, natural disasters, and other emergencies.
- Coordinate continuity of care and referral relationships with local hospitals serving students.
- Set visit, revenue, and expense targets for clinical service lines in collaboration with the Director of Operations and Finance Director.
- Act as a liaison for medical and public health issues across campus, serving as an expert on clinical health services and addressing concerns as needed.
- Respond to parent and leadership concerns as appropriate, and engage with student voices, attending and participating in Student Health Advisory Committee (SHAC) meetings.
- Represent Boynton at annual meetings with other Big 10 Medical Directors and relevant regional and national organizations in college health (NCCHA and ACHA).
Supervision (15%):
- Provide ongoing supervision to leaders and managers, offering regular performance feedback and conducting staff performance reviews following U of MN HR guidelines.
- Coach and mentor staff, emphasizing internal talent development through professional growth opportunities.
- Engage supervisees in crafting and executing the annual work plan, tracking performance, and sharing insights department-wide.
- Ensure supervisees establish contingency plans, monitor, and audit to address any risk areas effectively.
- Collaborate with Talent Management and Human Resources to cultivate clinical leadership, ensuring continuity of care and fostering professional development.
- Uphold fairness and equity in accordance with UMN personnel policies, labor agreements, and laws, while addressing individual staff needs and facilitating their growth.
Direct Patient Care in Urgent and Primary Care 40% FTE
The scope of practice for the Physician may include, but is not limited to the following for which privileges are granted annually, according to state law:
- Taking patient histories.
- Performing physical examinations including well visits/examinations.
- Interpreting and evaluating patient data.
- Ordering or performing diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures which may include, but are not limited to biopsy, minor surgery and wound care.
- Prescribing, administering, and dispensing prescription and nonprescription medications and medical devices.
- Diagnosing and treating illnesses, infectious diseases, minor trauma, and chronic conditions or diseases.
- Making patient referrals to other providers within Boynton and outside of Boynton to facilitate treatment plans, including severe mental illness.
- Providing contraceptive services, including emergency contraception
- Educating patients on health promotion, disease prevention, current treatments, importance of patient compliance, and answering patient questions.
- Arranging follow-up to review test results with patients, via appointments, phone calls, letters, or secure messages.
- Consulting with other physicians and/or health care professionals as needed to confirm difficult diagnosis and facilitate appropriate treatment plans.
- Assisting in mentoring and supervising the clinical work of nursing staff, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants.
- Other responsibilities as needed.
