Job Summary

The Bethel Lucia Chorum director leads an SSAA ensemble in several on-campus concerts with some possibility for off-campus concerts. Lucia Chorum is one of three audition-only choirs at Bethel University. The ensemble meets three times a week for regular rehearsals and performs several times during the year in collaboration with the Bethel Choir, mixed voice ensemble and The Royal Register, an acapella men's ensemble.

This position may be combined with other open positions in the Department of Music and Performing Arts, including instructor for Introduction to the Creative Arts and director of keyboard activities/accompanist, depending on the qualifications of the candidate.

Responsibilities

* Select repertoire for Lucia Chorum and lead three rehearsals a week during both Fall and Spring Semesters
* Co-conduct one rehearsal a week preparing the women from both Lucia Chorum and Bethel Choir for the Festival Women selections performed during Bethel University's Festival of Christmas Concerts
* Conduct the Lucia Chorum ensemble during a joint fall Concert with all three choral ensembles and a joint spring concert with The Royal Register
* Collaborate and conduct Lucia Chorum and the Festival Women ensemble during the music department's Festival of Christmas, a multi-concert event in December
* Assist in the preparation for the Classics, a major works concert, in spring
* Prepare and conduct the Choir for additional performances as scheduled
* Help promote the Choir and recruit new members
* Contribute to an academic environment that seeks to advance inclusive excellence in the program and the University

Skills

* Strong conducting and vocal pedagogical skills.
* Thorough knowledge of appropriate level choral repertoire
* Proven ability to collaborate with other directors
* Proven ability to work with students and recruit new members for the choir

Experience

Experience directing choirs at the high school or collegiate level required; experience as primary director of college-level ensembles preferred.

Education

Master's degree in music performance or music education is required; Doctorate preferred.

Compensation:

Equivalent to one course per semester
